Glycel’s Nursing Capping Ceremony: A Big Step Forward

We’re excited to share a happy update about our scholar Glycel Villono—she recently had her Nursing Capping Ceremony, an important milestone for every nursing student.

Glycel is currently studying Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Holy Trinity University in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. She’s doing well in school and staying on track with her coursework and training. The capping ceremony is a meaningful moment because it marks the transition from mostly classroom learning to more hands-on clinical work—where nursing becomes even more real (and yes, even more busy!).

A First for the Self-Reliant Farm Scholars

Glycel is on track to become the first Nursing graduate among the Self-Reliant Farm Scholarship Program scholars. That’s a big deal—not just as a “first,” but because it shows what’s possible when a student keeps moving forward, even when the path isn’t smooth.

The Connectivity Challenge That Changed Her Plan

Glycel also has a story that highlights a real challenge many students face in rural areas: unreliable power and internet.

Earlier on, she successfully passed the entrance exam and was accepted into Central Mindanao University for Nursing. But around the time she needed to confirm and complete the admission steps, the community’s solar power system broke down, which affected electricity and internet connectivity. Without a stable connection, she wasn’t able to respond and finalize everything in time—so she lost that opportunity.

Because of that, she had to pursue Nursing through a private school instead. It wasn’t the original plan, but she adjusted, stayed focused, and kept going.

We’re proud of Glycel and the steady progress she’s making. We’ll be sharing more updates as she continues through her program and moves closer to graduation.

that's perfect
