Bridging Education and Healthcare: Nursing Scholars for the Cabulihan Clinic

At WE Foundation, we believe education is one of the most practical ways to
build a better future. Through our scholarship program, we help young people
from underserved communities take real steps toward healthcare careers—and
eventually bring those skills back home.
This year is a major step forward. Three new scholars from the Self-Reliant Farm
Scholarship Program will begin nursing school, joining three scholars already in
their first year of nursing school in Olongapo and one scholar in Puerto Princesa
who is on track to graduate in 2027. With more students moving forward, our
need for support is also increasing.
Even in state schools, the annual cost per scholar is close to $5,000 (₱250,000).
This covers not only tuition, but also required laboratory and practicum fees,
uniforms, nursing supplies, books, school supplies, and living expenses. For many
families, these costs are not manageable without help.

We are grateful to Philippine International Aid for renewing partial support for
two of our scholars. Their continued partnership makes a meaningful difference.
However, as we prepare for three more students starting this fall, we will need
additional funding to keep these students on track.
For some scholars, nursing is also a pathway to further training, including dentistry
or medicine. These students are preparing not just for jobs, but for long-term
service as healthcare providers and community leaders.
This scholarship program connects directly to our clinic work. Through the
planned Cabulihan Medical and Dental Clinic, we are preparing a future
service site where scholars can return after graduation to help strengthen local
healthcare access. This supports Fr. John’s vision of a more self-sustaining
community—built with local capacity, not dependence.

To help supporters connect more personally, we will be launching a
separate GoFundMe page for each scholar, so donors can choose a student to
sponsor and follow their progress.
If you are looking for a high-impact way to help, supporting a scholar is a direct
investment in future healthcare access. We invite you to donate, share, or
volunteer to support WE Foundation’s work—because today’s students can
become tomorrow’s nurses, and tomorrow’s nurses can serve where they are
most needed.
