Building a Foundation for Health: The Cabulihan Clinic Project

WE Foundation is launching the healthcare component of our four core initiatives through our new campaign, Building a Foundation for Health. Our first major project under this effort is the Cabulihan Medical and Dental Clinic in Sitio Cabulihan, Culion, Palawan.

While Culion has a hospital—Culion Sanitarium General Hospital in the town proper (Brgy. Osmeña)—access remains difficult for families in remote areas. From Cabulihan, travel to the hospital can cost about ₱80 one way (₱160 round trip) by tricycle. For households without regular income, transportation cost alone can delay timely care, follow-up visits, and preventive services. Over time, this can mean conditions are treated later than they should be, and dental issues become more serious before families can seek help.

The purpose of the Cabulihan clinic is clear: bring basic medical and dental services closer to the community and provide a consistent site for organized medical and dental missions. WE Foundation already has medical and dental professionals willing to volunteer in Cabulihan. A permanent facility will allow missions to be more efficient and services to be delivered more regularly.

This clinic also connects directly to WE Foundation’s education work. It is designed to become a future service site for WE Foundation scholars who are completing healthcare degrees such as nursing and dentistry. We are especially encouraged that our first nursing scholar is expected to graduate soon, and we look forward to having her become the first scholar to return and serve the community through this clinic.

Our current estimate for construction and initial readiness—including essential equipment such as dental chair(s) and basic medical equipment—is $30,000, to be refined as local quotations are obtained.
