In December of last year, the WE Foundation had the privilege of participating in a fundraising concert hosted by Philippine International Aid (PIA), an organization dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged youth in the Philippines through access to education. We were invited by our friend and fellow alumna from medical school, Dr. Agnes Alikpala, to set up a display table at the event and share our foundation’s mission and ongoing projects.

It was a meaningful evening filled with music, generosity, and community. Through this opportunity, we were introduced to Ms. Mona Lisa Yuchengco, the founder of PIA. Shortly afterward, we were fortunate to meet with her over lunch. Ms. Yuchengco graciously shared her valuable insights on nonprofit management, sustainability, and the importance of cultivating strong partnerships. Her encouragement and practical guidance have been instrumental in helping us strengthen our own organization.

Following this meeting, we submitted a proposal to PIA’s Board of Directors, requesting support for two of our scholars who will be entering college next year. These scholars represent the aspirations of underserved communities in rural Philippines—young individuals with remarkable determination and the potential to give back to their communities in the future.
We are truly honored and grateful to share that PIA approved our proposal, committing to partially sponsor the education of both scholars. This would not have been possible without the incredible support of several key individuals in PIA’s Board of Directors, especially Dr. Edmund Duldulao.

PIA’s mission—to provide educational opportunities for disadvantaged Filipino youth—resonates deeply with the core values of the WE Foundation. This collaboration reflects the power of shared vision and collective impact. When organizations work together in service of a common goal, we amplify each other’s efforts and extend our reach to those who truly need it most.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Mona Lisa Yuchengco, Dr. Agnes Alikpala, Dr. Edmund Duldulao, and the entire Philippine International Aid Board of Directors for their trust, generosity, and belief in our scholars and the work we are doing.
