Bridging the Digital Divide: New Tech and Starlink Connectivity for Culion

At the WE Foundation, we are committed to ensuring that geography and financial hardship do not limit the potential of our scholars. We are excited to announce a major leap forward in our mission to provide the tools and connectivity necessary for success in higher education.

Equipping Scholars for Excellence

In our ongoing effort to supply students with essential resources, we have recently shipped five additional laptops, accompanied by external mice and keyboards. To maximize our reach and support as many students as possible, these items were purchased used to ensure every dollar goes further.

These tools are vital for our scholars—such as those pursuing rigorous Nursing and Agriculture degrees—to conduct research and complete digital coursework. For students like Mariel D. De Luna, who has highlighted that a lack of access to "empowering knowledge" can lead to marginalization, these laptops serve as more than just hardware. They are a gateway to the information required to "imagine lives larger than the limits of what they see around them". By placing this technology directly in the hands of our scholars, we are ensuring they can compete and excel in a modern academic environment.

A New Horizon: Starlink and the Future Computer Library

While hardware is essential, a reliable internet connection is the key that unlocks the vast educational resources offered online. We are incredibly grateful to William's cousin, Manny Nguyen, who has donated a latest-generation Starlink satellite internet system.

This transformative donation is designated for our planned computer library, which will be built in Cabulihan. For students in this remote area who would otherwise have no way to access the digital world, this high-speed connection will provide:

  • Unrestricted access to global libraries, research databases, and online tutorials.

  • The ability to further their knowledge beyond the classroom.

  • A stable platform to pursue their professional dreams and connect with the world.

Your Impact on Their Dreams

These advancements—both the laptops and the Starlink connectivity—are made possible by the dedicated contributions of our supporters. These resources directly support the ambitions of scholars like Mareil, Hannah, Niña, Jolina, and Lars Keneth, who are striving to bring their skills back to serve their community.

How You Can Help

If you would like to help us complete the computer library in Cabulihan or support our ongoing scholarship programs, please consider donating to the WE Foundation.

We would also always welcome donations of used laptops and other tech gadgets. Your pre-loved devices can become a vital lifeline for a student pursuing their degree. We remain dedicated to furthering Fr. John’s vision for the Self-Reliant Farm, ensuring that the youth of Culion have the tools to recognize their own potential and shape their own futures.
